Assessment

Problemsets. I will not mark the problemsets, but you should always do them before you come to class. If you want to talk about something, come to my office hour.

Homework. There are four pieces of homework to be submitted, which I will mark. Leave the homework in my folder in S600. The homework will be due in W8 of Michaelmas, W2 and W7 of Lent, and W1 of Summer term. We will go through solutions in the class in the same week. The homework does not count towards your final mark (except for General Course students), but it *is* compulsory.

Exam. The regulations say it's three hours, and "Candidates are required to answer eight out of 10 short questions and three out of six long questions." I think it will be similar to old exams, which you can see on the library website.

Class Structure

Attendance. I will keep an attendance roll: if you cannot attend the class please email me beforehand. You should be able to see your own register online. The system will send emails to your tutor automatically if you miss enough classes.

Evaluation. At the end of the year I have to write a paragraph about how you were in classes, so please don't sit quietly all the time.

Questions. The best time to ask questions is at my office hour -- I can't answer detailed questions by email -- you could also try the message board on WebCT.
